Australia won its sixth title in the ICC Cricket World Cup by defeating India by six wickets in the final match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19. The Australian team, led by Pat Cummins, won the toss and decided to bowl first, restricting Rohit Sharma and Company to a total score of 240 runs.
India started their defense strongly, with the tournament’s leading wicket-taker Mohammed Shami dismissing David Warner for seven runs on the first ball of the second over. Jasprit Bumrah then provided another breakthrough for India as he sent back Mitchell Marsh for just 15 runs in the fifth over of the game. In the seventh over, Bumrah continued his influence and took the wicket of top Australian batsman Steven Smith.
India got a ray of hope as the bowlers successfully dismissed Australia’s strong top-order batsmen. However, opener Travis Head took over Australia’s innings and made a vital 192-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Marnus Labuschagne. Head’s brilliant inning of 137 runs off 120 balls and Labuschagne’s unbeaten 58 runs gave the Kangaroos victory with 42 balls to spare.
Earlier, India got off to a great start despite losing the early wicket of Shubman Gill, who has a stellar record in Ahmedabad across all formats. Rohit Sharma He took the innings forward by playing a strong inning of 47 runs in 31 balls before falling victim to Maxwell and missing out on a half-century.
After the dismissal of Rohit and in-form Shreyas Iyer in consecutive overs, Virat Kohli went on the attack. Kohli and KL Rahul then stabilized India’s innings, both scoring respective half-centuries. However, Australia captain Pat Cummins took the crucial wicket of the former India skipper as he was dismissed for 54 off 63 balls.
KL RahulThose trying to control the innings got another blow when Ravindra Jadeja, who was promoted before Suryakumar Yadav, was out for just nine runs. The wicketkeeper-batsman made an important contribution of 66 runs from 107 balls before being dismissed by Starc, who took his second wicket. In the closing stages, Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav added 14 runs for the last wicket as India were eventually bowled out for 240 in 50 overs.
Ax’s reaction to Australia’s victory is as follows:
Well played, Australia.
Started the campaign with two defeats. Coming into the World Cup after defeats in two bilateral series. But they know how to win trophies.
Well done ๐

This has to be given to the Australian team. They stand for big things.
Once they reached the semi-finals, it was trouble for everyone.

Accept defeat and move on gracefully, friends. We were brilliant throughout the World Cup and were the best team, but in the final the better team won and they beat us completely. Let’s not find excuses in pitch, dew etc. #ICCCricketWorldCup2023Final
