Israel Hamas war US official says Gaza hostage deal closer than ever

Israel Palestine conflict: Amid the war between Israel and Hamas, an American official has claimed that an agreement is closer than ever to the release of some of the people held hostage in Gaza by the terrorist group itself.

The Jerusalem Post, quoting news agency Reuters, has published news about the statement of a White House official, which was given on Sunday (November 19). “We are talking about more than 12 (hostages),” the official said.

According to the report, White House Deputy National Security Adviser John Finer said the agreement to free the more than 12 hostages would likely also include an extended pause in fighting and allowing the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. However, meanwhile Israeli and American officials denied the Washington Post report that any agreement had been reached.

What did American officer John Finer say?

“What I can say at this point is that the areas of disagreement in this very sensitive conversation have been limited,” Finer said on NBC’s Meet the Press. “We believe we are closer to completing this deal than we have been in some time, perhaps closer than we have been since the beginning of this process.”

Israel also hopes to release a large number of hostages

Israel is hoping that a large number of hostages can be freed. Israeli Ambassador to the US Michael Herzog also said in an interview on ABC’s This Week program that Israel hopes that a large number of hostages can be freed from Hamas in the coming days.

However, Finer cautioned, “Nothing is agreed upon until everything is agreed upon.” Such sensitive talks can fail at the last moment.

During its deadly attack in southern Israel on October 7, Hamas took about 240 people hostage, who were taken to Gaza. Since this attack, the war between Israel and Hamas is going on in Gaza. Israel has vowed to destroy Hamas. According to Al Jazeera’s report, at least 13 thousand people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. At the same time, around 1200 people have lost their lives in Israel due to Hamas attacks.
