ICC decides to shift Under-19 World Cup 2024 from Sri Lanka to South Africa

Under-19 World Cup 2024 South Africa: Sri Lankan cricket is going through a bad phase. The Sri Lankan team was eliminated from the World Cup 2023 after facing a crushing defeat. Now another difficulty has increased. ICC has snatched the hosting of Under-19 World Cup 2024 from Sri Lanka. This decision has been taken in view of the ongoing turmoil in the Sri Lanka Cricket Board. ICC has now handed over the responsibility of hosting to South Africa. ICC held a long meeting regarding this and finally it was decided that the hosting will be given to South Africa.

Under-19 World Cup 2024 is to be organized in January-February next year. Earlier, the Sports Minister of Sri Lanka had dismissed the entire board due to poor performance in the World Cup 2023. The ICC considered this to be government interference in the board and suspended the Sri Lankan board. Now Sri Lanka has suffered a second blow.

According to the news of Cricbuzz, due to the ongoing uncertainty in the Sri Lankan Board, the hosting of Under-19 World Cup 2024 has been handed over to South Africa. ICC still maintains its decision to suspend the Sri Lankan board. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board was suspended on 10 November. If reports are to be believed, the suspension will not affect cricket there. Cricket will continue in Sri Lanka.

Let us tell you that Sri Lanka had a very poor performance in the World Cup 2023. The team was ranked 9th in the points table. Sri Lanka had won only 2 while playing 9 matches. It had to face defeat in 7 matches. Sri Lanka played its first match in this World Cup against South Africa. In this match he had to face defeat by 102 runs. Sri Lanka was defeated by Pakistan by 6 wickets and Australia by 5 wickets. Sri Lanka had won against Netherlands and England. After this, it faced defeat against India by 302 runs.
